Sir David Attenborough supports a £30M effort to buy and restore the Rothbury Estate for wildlife, public access, and a wild corridor to Scotland.
Sir David Attenborough is backing a £30 million effort to buy the 15-square-mile Rothbury Estate in Northumberland, one of England’s largest land sales in decades, to restore its moorland, rivers, woodland, and farmland for wildlife and public access.
The estate, part of a proposed 40-mile wild corridor to the Scottish border, supports rare species like curlews, red squirrels, and Atlantic salmon.
Conservationists aim to restore peatlands, rewild areas, reintroduce native herbivores, and promote sustainable farming, while creating public paths, a visitor center, and dark skies sites.
About £8 million has been raised, but £20 million more is needed within a year to prevent the land from being divided for commercial forestry or development.
