Sainsbury’s replaces Nectar barcode with QR code for point redemption, requiring app updates.
Starting October 27, 2025, Sainsbury’s requires Nectar cardholders to use a QR code in the Nectar app to spend points in-store, replacing the previous barcode system.
The update, aimed at improving security, mandates app updates to access the QR code, which can be added to digital wallets.
The barcode remains valid for collecting points at most locations, including Esso and Sainsbury’s Pay at Pump stations, and physical cardholders must swipe the magnetic strip to spend points.
Some customers have expressed frustration over the change, citing inconvenience.
