Residents oppose expanding Pooley Bridge’s car park over traffic, safety, and environmental concerns.
Residents of Pooley Bridge are opposing a proposed expansion of the Eusemere car park, citing worsening traffic, safety risks, and threats to the village’s character.
The plan, submitted to the Lake District National Park Authority, would add parking spaces, a toilet block, and a visitor centre on land south of the village.
This follows two prior rejections over environmental and traffic concerns.
Over 30 objections have been filed, with locals warning of gridlock, blocked emergency access, and increased danger for pedestrians and cyclists.
Critics also allege inadequate consultation and misrepresentation of local support.
While some officials back the project for improving infrastructure and reducing roadside parking, many residents argue it contradicts the National Park’s goal to reduce car dependency.
The application remains under review.
