The Port of Mobile is expanding its container terminal with a $131 million project to build a new 1,300-foot berth, enabling it to handle three ultra-large container ships at once.
Set to begin in 2026 and finish in 2028, the expansion includes a 33-acre yard, rail upgrades, and a rail flyover bridge, raising annual capacity to 1.4 million TEUs.
The project follows a completed $366 million channel deepening that made the port the deepest in the U.S. Gulf Coast.
APM Terminals and the port authority also extended their operating agreement through 2058.
