A New Zealand executive was sentenced for bribing a health board official with $170K to win contracts.
William MacKenzie, a director of Alpine Medical Hardware Limited, was sentenced to four months of community detention for bribing a former Auckland District Health Board manager with $170,215 in undisclosed payments between 2008 and 2015 to secure contracts.
The payments coincided with a sharp rise in annual ADHB payments to the company, from $52,000 to $400,000.
The former manager, who failed to disclose the relationship, has pleaded not guilty and faces trial in August 2026.
The Serious Fraud Office says the case highlights corruption undermining public trust and integrity in health procurement.
