A man was fatally shot in Spokane after a car title dispute, leading to arrests in the killing.

A 46-year-old man, Shawn Cranford, was fatally shot on October 17 near Gonzaga University in Spokane after a dispute over a car title. Zachary McGriff, 34, and 19-year-old Marius Velazquez were arrested in connection with the killing, with McGriff charged with first-degree murder and robbery. Authorities say the suspects followed Cranford and his brother, leading to the shooting near a halfway house. Cranford died at a hospital after being shot in a yard behind 803 E. Sinto Ave., where investigators found a torn vehicle registration and a 9 mm shell casing. McGriff was initially detained on a probation violation before being linked to the crime. Prosecutors allege McGriff encouraged the violence, while Velazquez carried out the shooting.
