Iraq has awarded a $764 million public-private partnership to the CAAP Consortium—led by Corporación América Airports and Amwaj International—to rehabilitate, develop, and operate Baghdad International Airport.
The project, approved on October 28, 2025, includes building a new terminal for 9 million annual passengers (expandable to 15 million), upgrading runways and cargo systems to ICAO Level 9 standards, and constructing a VIP terminal and Civil Aviation Authority headquarters.
The government expects significant job creation and revenue, with the deal hailed as one of Iraq’s most transparent and financially beneficial since 2006.
The initiative is advised by the World Bank’s International Finance Corporation and may expand to other airports.
