India boosts fertilizer subsidy by 55% for 2025-26 Rabi season to support farmers.
The Indian government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a ₹37,952 crore fertilizer subsidy for the 2025-26 Rabi season, a 55% increase from the previous year, to help farmers manage rising input costs.
Under the Nutrient-Based Subsidy Scheme, new rates were set for phosphorus, potash, and sulphur fertilizers, effective October 1, with phosphorus rising to ₹47.96 per kg.
The move supports key crops like wheat, mustard, and gram as Rabi sowing begins.
The decision comes amid strong agricultural performance, including record Kharif sowing, favorable monsoon conditions, and reservoir levels at 115.95% of the ten-year average.
Crop conditions for onion, potato, and tomato are good, and rice and wheat stocks exceed buffer norms.
The government cited digital innovations and farmer-friendly policies as drivers of growth, with continued focus on expanding pulses and oilseeds production.
