The Enforcement Directorate has alerted Tamil Nadu police about a suspected ₹888 crore cash-for-jobs scam in the MAWS department, alleging bribes of ₹25–35 lakh per post were paid to secure appointments for 2,538 positions in 2024–2025. The ED, citing evidence from a separate bank fraud case linked to a company owned by a minister’s brother, claims the rigging involved middlemen, hawala networks, and compromised exam processes. A 232-page dossier names suspects and requests a probe under the PMLA, including scrutiny of Anna University officials. BJP leader K. Annamalai accused the DMK government of systemic corruption, criticizing Chief Minister MK Stalin for publicly distributing appointment orders on August 6, 2025. The MAWS secretary denied knowledge of the ED’s notice, maintaining the process was fair.
