Canada’s arts and culture sector grew at an 8% annual rate over the past three years, outpacing the overall economy’s 4% growth and surpassing industries like oil and gas and manufacturing since 2011.
A new report by the Canadian Chamber of Commerce found the sector contributed $65 billion to the economy in 2024, with every government dollar invested generating $29 in economic activity and returning twice the amount in tax revenue.
The study, based on Statistics Canada data, covers six categories including live performances, visual arts, and audiovisual media, highlighting arts funding as a high-return investment with broad economic and social benefits.
