Basecamp North Lakes approved for seven eco-lodges with solar panels and biodiversity plan.
Basecamp North Lakes, a Lake District farm and visitor site near Troutbeck, has received approval to build seven eco-friendly timber-clad holiday lodges beside its fishing lake.
The project, submitted by Alpacaly Ever After, a community interest company that rescues alpacas and llamas, was approved after two prior applications were withdrawn.
The lodges, located along the lake’s north-eastern edge and screened by new willow and reed planting, will feature solar panels and a low-impact design.
The Lake District National Park Authority approved the revised plan on October 24, citing reduced landscape impact and alignment with sustainable tourism and farm diversification policies.
The decision followed 20 supportive letters and no objections from statutory bodies.
Conditions include restricting the lodges to short-term holiday use tied to the Basecamp business and requiring a 30-year biodiversity management plan.
