The Asian Development Bank has approved a $460 million results-based loan to expand solar power for agriculture in Maharashtra, India, aiming to deliver reliable daytime solar electricity to 900,000 farmers by 2028.
The project will upgrade rural power infrastructure, including substations, transformers, and transmission lines, and deploy 500 MWh of battery storage.
It will also promote green jobs, especially for women, and reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions by over 3 million tons.
An additional $40 million from the Clean Technology Fund supports the initiative.
