Three activists protest at Stonehenge with colored powders, denying damage; one’s DNA linked to device, cleaning cost £620.
Luke Watson, 36, a Just Stop Oil activist, is on trial at Salisbury Crown Court alongside Rajan Naidu, 74, and Niamh Lynch, 22, over a June 19, 2024, protest at Stonehenge.
They are accused of spraying the ancient monument with cornflour, talc, and orange dye using fire extinguishers, an act they deny.
Watson said he borrowed his grandmother’s car to transport the group, emphasizing he had no intent to cause permanent damage or distress.
The protest occurred the day before the summer solstice, when thousands were expected to visit.
CCTV footage shows the defendants arriving at the site wearing white Just Stop Oil T-shirts, and forensic tests linked Watson’s DNA to one of the devices.
Prosecutors said the substances could harden if wet and that cleaning cost £620.
All three defendants maintain their innocence.
