Singapore court rules LAC must return 54 GNC stores and pay $18.9M in damages over wrongful termination.
The Singapore International Commercial Court has upheld an arbitration award requiring LAC Global to return 54 GNC store leases in Singapore and pay over $18.9 million in damages, ruling LAC wrongfully terminated franchise agreements in 2022 despite GNC’s 2020 bankruptcy and strained relations.
The court found no evidence GNC had formally ended the contracts, deeming LAC’s rebranding an unjustified move to retain stores.
LAC, part of Ron Sim’s V3 Group, plans to appeal, maintaining operations will continue unchanged.
The outcome of the appeal could determine LAC’s future retail presence in Singapore.
