Polestar Maritime wins 15-year Indian port tug deal with lowest bid, part of 2040 green transition plan.

Polestar Maritime Ltd has won a 15-year charter deal to supply two battery-electric green tugs to India’s Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, offering the lowest daily rate of Rs 5.89 lakh. This follows similar green tug contracts awarded to Knowledge Marine and others at major Indian ports, part of the government’s 2024 Green Tug Transition Programme aiming to replace all conventional harbor tugs with sustainable alternatives by 2040. Initial tugs will be battery-electric, with future upgrades planned for hybrid, methanol, and green hydrogen technologies.
