Myanmar expands clean energy to meet 2030 demand, phasing out coal by 2050.
Myanmar is advancing its National Electrification Master Plan to meet rising electricity demand by 2030, aiming for non-hydropower renewables to generate 2,000 MW domestically, potentially reaching 3,070 MW with international support.
Coal use will continue until 2030 and be fully phased out by 2050.
As of September 2025, the country’s total generation capacity was 6,357 MW, with hydropower supplying 51%, natural gas 40%, solar 4%, coal 2%, and diesel 3%.
The plan seeks to expand access and diversify energy sources.
