Majid Jabal, 57, a key suspect linked to Melbourne’s illicit tobacco syndicate and uncle of alleged leader Kazem Hamad, was arrested in Wollert, Victoria, during a raid that uncovered cash and phones.
Though not yet charged, Jabal is under investigation by the Lunar Taskforce for alleged roles in arson, extortion, and unexplained wealth tied to the syndicate.
Hamad, deported in 2023 after a drug trafficking conviction, is believed to be directing operations from Iraq and labeled a national security threat over alleged ties to violence and a suspected terror attack on the Australian Jewish community on behalf of Iran.
Jabal is at least the third family member of Hamad’s arrested since 2024, with two non-family associates set to stand trial for arson and drug smuggling.
