Ladakh lifts 34-day public gathering ban after security improved post-violence and protests.
Restrictions on public gatherings of five or more people in Ladakh’s Leh and Kargil districts have been lifted after 34 days, following a police assessment that no immediate threat to public order exists.
The ban, initially imposed on September 24 after violent clashes left four dead, was briefly lifted then reimposed on October 17 amid protests by groups demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule safeguards.
The move follows a judicial inquiry announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs and resumed talks between the central government and protest groups.
Officials cite improved security conditions, marking a step toward normalcy in the region.
