Krishna Deokaran, 50, was charged with money laundering in connection with a multi-county gambling operation linked to suspended Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez.
Arrested October 6, he was released on $20,000 bail and pleaded not guilty.
Authorities allege he was central to a scheme generating at least $21 million, involving illegal casinos in Osceola, Lake, and Orange counties, with Lopez allegedly receiving $600,000–$700,000.
Deokaran, who cooperated initially as an informant, reportedly used a fake deputy badge and claimed a close relationship with Lopez to bolster the operation’s legitimacy.
Two co-defendants have pleaded guilty, another pleaded no contest, and one remains at large.
Lopez, charged with racketeering and conspiracy, remains out on $1 million bail as his trial is delayed pending a venue change request.
