India approves ₹5,532 crore in electronics projects to boost local production and cut imports.
The Indian government has approved seven electronics manufacturing projects under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme, totaling ₹5,532 crore in investment, with plans to produce critical components like printed circuit boards, camera modules, and copper-clad laminates.
Located in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh, the projects are expected to generate over 5,100 direct jobs and reduce India’s annual electronics import bill by about ₹20,000 crore.
The initiative, part of a broader push for self-reliance, aims to strengthen domestic supply chains for smartphones, defense, telecom, and electric vehicles, with full production capacity expected to meet nearly all domestic demand for key materials like laminates.
