Fourteen-year-old Riley Jones from Eden, New South Wales, is on a 10-day sailing trip across Bass Strait aboard the STV Windeward Bound, his first time at sea.
Participating in a youth training program backed by Rotary International and local sponsors, he joined a crew of nine teens and experienced sailors.
Though initially nervous and homesick, Riley is excited about night watches and stargazing.
The journey, focused on navigation, safety drills, and ship maintenance, aims to build teamwork and personal resilience.
No mobile phones are allowed, but cameras are permitted.
The crew, including teens from diverse backgrounds, will arrive in Beauty Point, Tasmania, on November 4.
