Broome County and Binghamton are launching mobile mental health crisis teams in 2026 to reduce police involvement and improve care access.
Broome County and the City of Binghamton are expanding their mental health crisis response system in 2026, adding mobile crisis teams that will respond to non-violent calls with mental health professionals and peer advocates, reducing reliance on police.
The initiative, funded with over $1 million including $100,000 from Binghamton and additional county and state funds, will operate daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and be coordinated by the 9-1-1 center.
The expansion builds on existing services and aims to improve access to care, support recovery, and save lives.
