B.C. Supreme Court affirms Quw’utsun Nation’s Aboriginal title; leaders reject claims it threatens private property.

The Quw’utsun Nation accused B.C. Premier David Eby and Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie of spreading “misleading” fears about a court ruling that recognized its Aboriginal title over part of Lulu Island. The August decision affirmed the nation’s fishing rights but delayed any impact on private property for 18 months. The nation said private ownership remains valid and urged residents to address concerns with the province. B.C. plans to appeal the ruling.
