Argentine President Javier Milei won a decisive victory in the 2025 midterm elections, securing 40.84% of the vote and strengthening his mandate to push forward sweeping free-market reforms, including deep spending cuts and deregulation.
His La Libertad Avanza coalition won six of eight Senate-province races, surpassing expectations and bolstering his political standing.
The results, which drew international attention, came amid U.S. President Donald Trump’s reported threat to withdraw a $20 billion aid package if Milei lost.
Despite the win, voter turnout was just under 68%, among the lowest since 1983.
While inflation dropped from 289% in April 2024 to 32% in October 2025, many Argentines continue to face rising costs, stagnant wages, and higher unemployment, underscoring ongoing economic hardship despite the political boost.
