U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that no trade agreement with China will come at the expense of America’s commitments to Taiwan, dismissing concerns ahead of upcoming U.S.-China talks.
Speaking en route to Asia, Rubio reaffirmed that the U.S. will not abandon its support for Taiwan’s security or oppose any use of force to resolve its status.
The comments come as President Trump prepares for a summit with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in South Korea, where trade, technology, and human rights are expected to be discussed.
The U.S. is also probing China’s compliance with a 2020 trade deal as part of its strategy ahead of negotiations.
