Three-year-old border collie Duke won Australia’s top working dog title by traveling 556 km across Queensland.
Three-year-old border collie Duke has been named Australia’s top working dog in the Cobber Challenge, covering 556 kilometers over three weeks on a remote Queensland cattle station.
Using GPS tracking, Duke outperformed competitors, including Denzel Bambridge and his dog Buck (316 km) and Tahlia Carroll and her dog Stan (184 km).
Owner Beck Smith credited Duke’s endurance, especially during an eight-hour flood rescue mission in early 2025.
The 10-year-old competition has seen participants travel the equivalent of 2.5 laps around Australia.
Smith, who runs the property alone, considers Duke and her farm animals—goats, calves, ducks, geese, and a cat named Mango—essential companions.
