Odisha vigilance caught a treasury peon red-handed taking a ₹47,000 bribe for processing a widow’s pension.

Odisha Vigilance arrested Harischandra Mohapatra, a peon at the Special Treasury Office in Jeypore, for allegedly demanding and accepting a Rs 47,000 bribe while extorting a total of Rs 87,000—25% of a Rs 3.48 lakh pension arrear payment. The accused was caught red-handed during a trap operation after previously receiving Rs 40,000 from a widow seeking her late husband’s pension. The case, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, is ongoing, with searches conducted at two locations linked to the accused.
