1.3 million children in Pakistan’s Sindh province work, mostly in agriculture, with half in hazardous conditions, despite a 50% drop since 1996.
A new survey in Pakistan’s Sindh province finds 1.3 million children aged 5 to 17 are working, with 65% in agriculture and half facing hazardous conditions.
Conducted for the first time in nearly 30 years, the study shows child labour has dropped nearly 50% since 1996, but remains high in poor households, especially in Sujawal and Tharparkar.
Only 41% of working children attend school, and poverty drives most families to rely on child labour.
The findings will guide stronger enforcement of child labour laws and policies.
