Marco Odermatt won the opening men’s World Cup giant slalom in Soelden after a delayed second run.
Marco Odermatt of Switzerland won the season-opening men’s World Cup giant slalom in Soelden, Austria, edging out Austria’s Marco Schwarz by 0.24 seconds after a weather-delayed second run.
Odermatt, who led after the first run by 0.01 seconds, secured his 46th career win and 27th in giant slalom.
The race was delayed an hour due to heavy snow and poor visibility, requiring course clearing.
Schwarz, returning to the podium after injuries, finished second, while Norway’s Atle Lie McGrath took third.
River Radamus was the only American to advance, finishing 21st.
The men’s World Cup continues with a slalom in Levi, Finland, on November 16.
