Karnataka court orders state to explain tree cuts in Bengaluru’s Lalbagh Garden by Oct. 28.
The Karnataka High Court has ordered the state government to clarify by October 28 whether trees in Bengaluru’s Lalbagh Botanical Garden will be cut for the proposed ₹19,000 crore Twin Tunnel Road project.
The court, hearing two public interest litigations, expressed concern over the project’s potential environmental damage, including the threat to a 3,000-million-year-old geological monument and the acquisition of 6.5 acres within the garden.
Petitioners argue the project lacks required environmental clearances and violates several laws, including those governing land transport and park preservation.
The court has directed the government to halt further actions until compliance with legal requirements is proven and has sought input from the Geological Survey of India.
A hearing is set for October 28.
