Japan launched its new HTV-X cargo ship on October 26, 2025, marking the start of next-gen space freight to the ISS.
Japan successfully launched its new HTV-X cargo spacecraft on October 26, 2025, aboard the H3 rocket from Tanegashima Space Center, marking the first mission of the next-generation freighter to the International Space Station.
The unmanned spacecraft, developed by JAXA, replaces the retired Kounotori series and can carry over 5.8 tons of cargo, thanks to a lighter airframe and upgraded systems.
After a four-day journey, it will be captured by the ISS’s robotic arm and berthed for supply delivery and waste return.
The H3 rocket has now achieved six consecutive successful launches.
