An infant died in a Pittsburgh car trunk; a woman who gave birth nearby is hospitalized and under investigation.
Pittsburgh police are investigating the death of an infant found in the trunk of a car on the city’s North Side.
The case began when a woman from Ohio Township gave birth at a local hospital but left without her baby.
Authorities were alerted, leading them to a vehicle on Federal Street where the infant’s body was discovered wrapped in clothing and inside a plastic bag.
Investigators also examined a residence on Marshall Avenue linked to the woman, finding evidence of a recent birth.
The woman is hospitalized and will be questioned once medically cleared.
The cause and manner of death are under investigation by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.
