India to launch November 6, 2025, tender for 10,900 electric buses to cut emissions and boost local jobs.
India will launch a major electric bus tender on November 6, 2025, to procure 10,900 zero-emission buses for cities including Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Surat, and Ahmedabad as part of its National Electric Bus Programme.
The procurement, managed by state-owned Convergence Energy Services Ltd, uses a gross cost contract model where private operators will own and maintain the buses, while cities pay per kilometer.
Bengaluru will receive 4,500 buses, Delhi 2,800, Hyderabad about 2,000, and Surat and Ahmedabad together 1,600.
The project aims to cut 4 million tonnes of CO₂ annually and promote local hiring, including women drivers and engineers.
The tender was delayed from August to November due to concerns over charging infrastructure.
