India to launch new deep-sea fishing vessels in Mumbai to boost exports and coastal livelihoods.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate advanced deep-sea fishing vessels at Mazagon Dock in Mumbai on October 27, 2025, under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojna.
The vessels, each costing around ₹1.2 crore, are being provided to cooperatives and fisherfolk producer organizations with support from the central and Maharashtra governments, NCDC, and the Department of Fisheries.
Designed for operations beyond 40–60 nautical miles into India’s Exclusive Economic Zone and high seas, they feature modern technology for safety, sustainability, and traceability.
The initiative aims to boost high-value fisheries, enhance seafood exports, strengthen coastal livelihoods, and promote women-led cooperatives as part of India’s broader Blue Economy strategy.
