Germany’s Rheinmetall to build €535M gunpowder plant in Romania, reviving town with 700 jobs.
A €535 million gunpowder plant by German firm Rheinmetall is set to revive Victoria, Romania, where a once-thriving chemical complex closed in 2025.
The new Victoria Explosive Powder Factory, part of the EU’s ReArm Europe Plan, will employ around 700 people and begin construction in 2026 on adjacent land, using high-quality water but not the old infrastructure.
The project aims to reverse decades of depopulation and economic decline in the town, which saw its population drop from 10,000 to 6,500 since 1992.
Rheinmetall also plans a training center to build local manufacturing skills, as Romania receives €16.7 billion in EU defense funding.
Rheinmetall, de Alemania, construirá una fábrica de pólvora en Rumania por un importe de 535 millones de euros, lo que revivirá la ciudad con 700 puestos de trabajo.
