Fidel Arenas-Torres, a Mexican man known as "El Pelón," pleaded guilty to leading a meth ring on the Turtle Mountain Reservation, trafficking hundreds of pounds since 1999.
Fidel Arenas-Torres, a 45-year-old Mexican national known as "El Pelón," pleaded guilty to his role in a methamphetamine distribution ring on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation, with prosecutors alleging involvement in trafficking hundreds of pounds of meth since at least 1999.
His arrest in November 2023 during an immigration case led to the discovery of 50 pounds of meth in a vehicle linked to two associates.
Evidence showed he directed the operation from prison through coded calls to his associate Diana Quezada, who coordinated deliveries and payments.
His defense argued he was a facilitator, not a primary supplier, and claimed he was falsely imprisoned in Mexico from 2005 to 2019, alleging torture and a $100,000 bribe to the H-2 cartel for his family’s safety.
He was acquitted in Mexico in 2019 after the former attorney general involved was convicted in a U.S. drug case, and he returned to the U.S. to avoid retaliation.
He is scheduled for sentencing in the federal drug case.
