DHS removed MGMT’s song from an ICE post after backlash over unauthorized use in a protest arrest video.
The Department of Homeland Security removed MGMT’s “Little Dark Age” from an ICE recruitment post after the band issued a takedown request, calling the use of their 2017 song in a video showing agents arresting protesters in Portland unauthorized propaganda.
The video, shared on October 23, was captioned “End of the Dark Age, beginning of the Golden Age,” and sparked backlash for its ironic contrast with the song’s critique of Trump-era politics and social unease.
The post was deleted from X but remained on Instagram and Bluesky without music.
This follows similar incidents in October involving The Cure and Jay Z, as DHS faces ongoing criticism for using copyrighted music in immigration enforcement messaging.
