Agnico Eagle reaffirmed its strong commitment to Northern Ontario, where it plans to produce 1.5 million ounces of gold annually by 2030.
Agnico Eagle Mines, a Canadian mining company, reaffirmed its commitment to Northern Ontario during a October 23, 2025, speech by VP Andre Leite, highlighting that about one million of its projected 3.4 million ounces of gold production in 2025 comes from the region, with plans to increase that to 1.5 million ounces.
The company operates the Detour Lake and Macassa mines, employs roughly 4,000 in Ontario, and spends $1.8 billion annually on goods and services, including $600 million with First Nations.
It has 13 agreements with Indigenous communities, contributing $156 million in direct payments last year.
A June 2024-approved underground expansion at Detour Lake aims to boost annual output to about one million ounces starting in 2030, potentially making it one of Canada’s largest underground mines.
