Zarah Sultana, co-leader of the left-wing Your Party, said Scotland is likely to see more political defections, citing ongoing talks with elected officials, including former Green councillors in Glasgow. Speaking ahead of a Glasgow rally, she confirmed the party will run candidates in the May 2026 Scottish Parliament elections, promoting a socialist alternative focused on hope and opposition to austerity. Sultana emphasized that Scottish members, not national leadership, will decide the party’s stance on independence and leadership, and rejected Westminster’s potential veto over a referendum. She criticized the Scottish Government’s funding of Italian arms firm Leonardo, linking it to the conflict in Gaza, and called for unity across the left to counter the rise of Reform UK in both Westminster and Holyrood.
