Volunteers restored a 400 AD well in Somerset, backed by a £250K grant and recognized by experts.
Volunteers from the Sandringham Well Restoration Committee, led by retired archaeologist Dr Brian Potter, have restored a 20-foot-deep medieval well and bathing pool near Blagdon, Somerset, believed to date from around 400 AD.
The five-year project, supported by a £250 Wells Trust grant in December 2024, repaired the well wall to stop leaks and preserved a structure linked to Roman-era villas and later agricultural use.
The site, on private land but visible from a public footpath, was recognized by the Cambridge Archaeological Journal and featured on The One Show.
