Thai PM Anutin cancels APEC, ASEAN trips for queen mother’s funeral; mourning declared.
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has canceled his attendance at the APEC and ASEAN summits in South Korea and Malaysia following the death of Queen Mother Sirikit at age 93 on October 24, 2025.
Thailand has declared a 30-day national mourning period, with flags at half-mast, government officials wearing black for a year, and entertainment activities suspended.
Anutin will travel to Malaysia on Sunday to attend a Thailand-Cambodia peace agreement signing, possibly with Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow representing him at the summits.
The queen, revered for her cultural and humanitarian work, died after a prolonged illness, including a bloodstream infection.
Her body will be moved to the Grand Palace for a royal funeral procession.
