A Texas judge has upheld a ban on gender-affirming care for minors, leading to the first doctor's license revocation under the law.
Dr. May Lau, a Dallas pediatrician, has surrendered her Texas medical license after being sued by Attorney General Ken Paxton for allegedly prescribing testosterone to at least 21 transgender minors, violating Senate Bill 14, a 2023 law banning gender-affirming hormone treatments for minors.
The state alleged she falsified medical records, but Lau denied the claims, calling them politically driven, and said she plans to continue practicing in Oregon.
Her case was the first under the law, which the Texas Supreme Court upheld in June 2024.
The state dropped charges against another doctor, Hector Granados, after he stopped providing such care before the law took effect.
A third case remains pending.
