A sheriff’s deputy was charged with two counts of first-degree assault after an off-duty crash on Alabama 75 that injured three people.
A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputy, Shamonte D. Lanfair, 34, was charged with two counts of first-degree assault after a multi-vehicle crash on October 8 on Alabama 75 near the 4-mile marker. Lanfair, off-duty and driving a department-issued Chevrolet Tahoe, struck a Toyota Corolla, which then hit a Camry. The crash injured Lanfair, the Corolla’s driver, and a 15-year-old passenger, all hospitalized. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating, and Lanfair is held in jail with a $30,000 bond. No further details on the charges or the crash’s cause have been released.
