Seattle opened a new 1.5-mile protected bike lane along East Marginal Way S. on October 25, 2025, improving safety for cyclists traveling from West Seattle to downtown.
Part of a larger corridor project, the two-way lane separates bikes from freight traffic and is funded by the 2015 “Levy to Move Seattle” and other sources.
Construction began 18 months prior, with the central segment now open and a temporary shared path available west of Horton Street.
Work continues on the southern segment, with future upgrades planned for sidewalks, signals, and pedestrian access near the First Avenue South Bridge.
A celebration event was held to mark the milestone.
