New North Dakota education chief Levi Bachmeier will live in West Fargo, not Bismarck, as state law doesn’t require it.
Levi Bachmeier, newly appointed North Dakota superintendent of public instruction, will keep his primary residence in West Fargo, where his family lives, despite the state capital being Bismarck.
This arrangement is common, as six of the governor’s 19 cabinet members reside outside Bismarck-Mandan, and state law only requires the governor to live in the capital.
Bachmeier, a former education policy adviser, plans to travel across all 53 counties to engage with school districts.
He will assume the role after outgoing superintendent Kirsten Baesler transitions out, pending the federal government’s reopening.
Officials and union leaders affirm that location does not affect job performance.
