Mussel harvesting reopened in southern Oregon due to safe toxin levels, while other seafood harvests remain restricted in parts of the state.
Mussel harvesting has reopened along Oregon’s southern coast from Cascade Head to the California border after two consecutive tests showed marine biotoxin levels below safety limits. Harvesting remains closed from the Washington border to Cascade Head. Razor clamming is open from the Columbia River to Cape Blanco, closed south of Cape Blanco. Crab harvest is allowed in bays, beaches, piers, jetties, and tide pools, but ocean crabbing is closed from October 16 to November 30. The Oregon Department of Agriculture continues testing shellfish at least twice monthly, with reopenings requiring two safe tests. Harvesters should check current conditions via the Shellfish Safety Hotline or the ODA’s website. Information on licenses and regulations is available through ODFW.
