Gunnar Henderson, a former football player from McAllen High, has returned to the Rio Grande Valley to coach wide receivers at UTRGV, bringing experience from his time at Incarnate Word and TCU, including a 2023 National Championship appearance. His return to coach against Incarnate Word holds personal significance, as he grew up in the area and now mentors student-athletes, including his younger cousin. UTRGV also emphasizes academic success, with Associate Athletic Director Julia Perez leading a support system that helped 38 football players earn honor roll recognition in June 2025.
