Four Cedar Rapids officers won’t face charges after shooting Aaron Rich during a deadly high-speed chase.
Four Cedar Rapids police officers will not face criminal charges after an August 5, 2025, pursuit and shooting involving 22-year-old Aaron T. Rich, who stole a 9 mm handgun and fled in a vehicle.
The high-speed chase ended when Rich crashed, reversed, struck a person and a police car, then pointed a firearm at officers, prompting them to fire 31 rounds.
The Linn County Attorney’s Office found the officers’ use of force justified, citing threats to their safety and public danger.
Rich, who had prior felony convictions and was on probation, was injured and later charged with multiple offenses including assault on a peace officer and child endangerment.
A jury trial is scheduled for November.
