Dhaka's income hit $5,163 in 2025, double Bangladesh's average, driven by manufacturing and services.
Dhaka’s per capita income reached $5,163 in 2025, nearly double Bangladesh’s national average, according to the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s new Economic Position Index (EPI), based on a survey of 654 manufacturing and service sector respondents.
The EPI, a quarterly tool tracking production, sales, employment, and business confidence, found manufacturing contributed 56% and services 44% to Dhaka’s GDP.
DCCI leaders and experts urged reforms in lending, taxation, law enforcement, and infrastructure to sustain growth, while warning of widening urban-rural inequality and SME challenges.
The index is set to expand to other cities and include agriculture and technology sectors, with plans for international validation and academic publication.
