Dakota Johnson is set to direct her feature debut, *A Tree Is Blue*, a low-budget film about an autistic teenager seeking independence after high school, with production beginning in Los Angeles next month.
Written by autistic debut screenwriter Vanessa Burghardt, the project, financed by Rivulet Entertainment and backed by $2.4 million in California tax incentives, also features Charli XCX and Jessica Alba in lead role negotiations.
Johnson, known for acting in *Splitsville* and *The Materialists*, previously directed the short film *Loser Baby*, which premiered at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
No release date has been announced.
